Unit: Exploring Elements of art and
Principles of design.
This Unit is designed to introduce students
to the IB MYP Visual Arts program, which lays the groundwork for developing a
personal project in 10th grade while providing valuable preparation for the DP
Visual Arts course for juniors and seniors. Aspiring artists will become
familiar with the Elements of Art (line, shape, form, color, value, texture,
space) and the Principles of Design (emphasis, balance, movement, rhythm,
proportion, contrast, pattern) as they explore a variety of artists and art
movements. Various 2-D and 3-D media and techniques will be introduced and
incorporated into projects. Art vocabulary, art history, and art criticism will
help reinforce the basic concepts.
Below are examples of the excellent work 6th graders have been doing through this process.
