Science and PE/Health pages updated 3/29/2014

Ms Kim has updated the Science page with many pictures of action packed Science lessons featuring electricity.
There is even a video of bending water.

The PE/Health page has also been updated with information on the latest health unit including Self esteem, sleep and body image. Click on the tab to see a startling example of photoshop gone too far.

Students of the Month

Once again, we have celebrated student excellence in our Student of the Month assembly.

This time we were celebrating February and march students.

CONGRATULATIONS TO: 

Grace (Haeun) Lee

Since starting at TCIS this semester, she has given 100% effort in class. She is positive, encouraging, reflective, principled, open-minded, focused, diligent and always strives to do her best. 

She has taken on the challenge of starting a new school in the middle of the year with courage, showing she is a risk taker and has demonstrated growth even in her short time here. 

Her encouraging attitude and sense of “fairness” brings a calm and positive influence to the class. She is appreciated for the way she tries to help out during the lessons by doing the small extra things, like helping another student, packing up extra equipment and expressing gratitude to others.

She uses her time wisely in class, is not afraid of challenges and hard work and has made Grade 6 a better place by being here.

Sally (Hyun Ji) Ahn

She has demonstrated time and time again she is diligent, conscientious, and a positive influence on others. She is always offering to help others and shows maturity in the way she works in groups to be a thinker by solving problems in class both academically and socially. She is a very active participant in class, always seizing opportunities to grow and excel.

She is a reflective student and really shows care for the quality of her work. She always strives do her best and often goes beyond the basic expectations to push and challenge herself. 

She has demonstrated excellent personal organization skills across all of her subjects. She listens carefully and takes on any advice or feedback she is given to improve herself. 

She is open-minded to all activities, seeing challenges as a way to grow and learn. She demonstrates balance in her academic life by giving all subjects equal effort in her studies.

World Sleep Day... Friday March 14th

Friday March 14th is WORLD SLEEP DAY...

A day dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of sleep.

(NO- it is not a day to sleep!)

Students found out that it is a day to promote healthy sleep habits and patterns.

Students have been examining their own sleep patterns.

Many students are not getting the recommended amount for teens which is 9 hours.

Given it is a world event, it shows that sleep deprivation and the effects of sleep deprivation have world wide implications.

Children's author and Poet Laureate Kenn Nesbitt visits TCIS

Kenn Nesbit visited TCIS this week to talk to our students about poetry, writing and becoming a published author.
He entertained with readings from his numerous books.

Pi Day celebrations and Humanities page update

Congratulations to Jonathan Kim and Jayson Leem who placed 2nd in the TCIS Pi day competition.

This was a competition with some students from the Elementary school and students representing each of the grades in the Secondary School. Each pair of students competed in reciting as many digits of Pi as they could recall.

Well done Jayson and Jonathan!

English page has been updated...

The English, Language and Literature unit on poetry has produced some fantastic pieces which are currently on display on the second floor.

Extracurricular activity- Volleyball

Over the past month 6-8 students have been involved in Volleyball and Table Tennis intramurals.
It has been fantastic to see so many 6th grade students involved in activities and being risk takers by learning new skills and making new friends.
On March 1 students travelled to SIS in Seoul to compete in a jamboree.

The next Volleyball and Table Tennis Jamboree will be held on March 8th at TCIS.

Please come along and support our students in the Dragon gym and Activity Centre.

We would love to see lots of parents on that day.

The PTA is also looking for Grade 6 parents to help sell food on that Saturday.
