Here are the winners of Students of the Month for December+ January.
Grace Lee:
This student has been recognised as a leader in a wide range of classes. She has strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, demonstrated through her willingness to work with a wide variety of students on a wide variety of tasks. When working in groups, she is central to her group’s success in the way she can listen, take the lead, and also invite other students to contribute. She helps students to focus on the goal of the group task, and to find the pathway to success in their learning. She is a trusted student both by teachers and peers because of her responsible and fair attitudes. She is keen to learn new concepts, works hard to improve herself and embraces the process of her learning, rather than just looking at her grades and results. She contributes thoughtful ideas and opinions in class discussions, is always prepared for class, and helps other students to also do their best. She is able to summarise and articulate her ideas clearly and is making real world connections in her learning. She is a strong thinker and communicator in a wide range of areas of school life. She demonstrates balance by being involved in extra community activities at TCIS, and does not look for awards or external recognition for her efforts, demonstrating true servant leadership qualities.
Christina Park:
This student has consistently shown herself to be a risk taker in the way she constantly pushes herself forward to learn. While it is not always easy for her, she continues to work hard, giving her best in all assignments, and proving herself to be a good team player. She has determination and perseverance to maintain her good work ethic, and she is appreciated for the positive attitude she brings to class every lesson. She is a role model to others, with her no-fuss focussed approach to her work, and her caring attitude towards others. She models many of the ATL Self Management skills of developing focus, concentration, persistence and delaying gratification. Nothing is too much trouble for this student, who is kind and caring to everyone she comes into contact with. She does not shy away from new challenges, or unknown concepts, and shows many other students how to have resilience, even when tasks are difficult. This has lead to huge gains in her English acquisition through her desire to improve and learn. She uses her inquiry skills to seek information to be knowledgeable and gives value to all of her subjects, showing balance in her learning.

Yoo Jin Han
Principled, hard working, caring, and organised… just some of the words used to describe this student in all aspects of her school life. This student always blurs the lines between learning and kindness and is never one to do something just for her own gain. To her, success means helping someone to reach their potential, along with working to reach her own potential. Many people comment on her open-mindedness and her gifts in working with other students. She makes people feel at ease around her, and is always willing to go the extra mile to help another person. She has also shown herself to be an excellent student, continually reflecting on her work, asking questions and seeking a better way to improve the overall quality of what she is doing. She is a delight to have in class, is wise beyond her years, funny, and a humble and caring servant to many people. This student consistently exudes the IB Learner traits of being Balanced and Principled.
Tommy Jeon
This student leads by example not only in his words, but most importantly in his actions. He is a person of his word and integrity, always trustworthy and doing what he said he would. Recently he volunteered to help several teachers organise things, find things, carry things, or help run things. Some would think these are small actions, however, his behaviour is duly noted for the unselfish way he is willing to help and serve others. He is always kind and considerate of others in class and in the hallways, creating a happy atmosphere here at TCIS. He has shown he is resilient this month by persevering during the English unit on Julius Caesar. He showed depth in his reflection skills, communicating his perspective and ideas strongly. His effective communication skills were also noted in Math class. Many teachers commented on his leadership skills while working in groups. His high level of respect and care for others, inspires his peers to treat others in the same way, and creates a warm and inclusive learning environment in every class he is a part of. This student has quietly gone about their business, never seeking reward or acclaim for their good deeds, and this is part of the very reason why we are celebrating him today.
