Congratulations to our Students of the Month...

Congratulations go to 2 young ladies who were awarded 'Student of the Month' for the combined December and January months:

Christy Zo

She has shown herself to be balanced from the variety of subjects and teachers who have commented on her excellent efforts and principled behaviour. She is not one to rest on her laurels and works hard on those areas which she identifies as weaknesses. Her participation in Drama, Mandarin, Math and PE is always remarkable and consistent. She is a principled learner as she is open to various ideas and can work positively with classmates from diverse backgrounds. She is caring, too as she always tries to find something positive in her classmates' work to comment on. In class, she tries to achieve beyond teacher's expectations in a very humble way, and her kind and warm personality positively influences the overall class energy. Coupled with excellent communication skills, she is certainly deserving of the student of the month. 

Soo Min (Jennifer ) Park

She has grown academically and takes her educational opportunities seriously. She is respectful, open-minded, and sincere. She works very hard in class and has made a lot of progress over the course of year. 

She is incredibly helpful to others in class, humble, and has an excellent work ethic.  While she is a quiet achiever, she demonstrates that she is reflective and principled in independent and group tasks. She is gaining in confidence with using spoken English in her classes, developing deeper links with her learning and her peers. She makes her classmates feel comfortable around her with her caring heart. She is great example of how hard work, a willing spirit and a caring heart can achieve success at TCIS.

ISA Testing is coming...

On February 10th and 11th, Grades 3-8 students at TCIS will be participating in the ISA standardised test.

Teens and Risky Behaviors

In Health classes currently, we are investigating risk taking and decision making as part of the curriculum.

We do this unit now because Grade 7 students are often starting to get involved in pushing the boundaries and trying different risky behaviors (both positive and negative).

Parents, here is a useful website for all things parenting. The attached link is particularly useful when helping a teenager exert their independence in healthy and safe ways.

Service Week

In the last week of school for 2014, Grades 6-8 students were involved in various service activities around TCIS, Techno Valley and greater Daejeon.
Here are some pictures of some of the activities during this last week of school.

Grade 7 students raised a lot of money for Samaritan's Purse. 650,000KRW was raised, with 90% of that coming from Grade 7 students!

We would like to have a blanket and winter jacket drive now. If you have blankets or jackets you no longer use or need , then send them in and we will donate them to people who need them in this cold weather.

Students of the Month for November

Students of the Month for November

Sally (Hyun Ji) Ahn

This student is someone who puts her full effort into her tasks. She is an inquirer, always wanting find ways to do it better, She ran for the cross country team, pushing herself to achieve, and currently is serving as part of the Praise team, demonstrating she values balance in her life.

Sally is open minded, wants to learn new things, and always up for a good discussion. She has an inquiring mind, thinking deeply about new material and analysing information, while using her prior knowledge on the topic.

Her ability to pay attention to details is outstanding, and her work ethic serves as an example for others. She encourages others through her hard work, principled attitude and dedication to lift their standards, showing it is possible to achieve highly when you work hard at something. She has shown herself to be caring in group work, looking out for others as well as for herself and demonstrating good communication skills in a variety of contexts.

Jinsoo Park

This student is really blossoming in his learning at TCIS. Being a new student at the start of the year he has transitioned quickly due to his caring nature and kind disposition. He has a quiet determination, which has been evident in his work. He commits himself to his best regardless of the task. He has shown himself to be open-minded towards new activities and is willing to give all tasks his equal effort. He has shown improvement in his written communication skills and has been seen to be helping other students with their work many times in classes. This demonstrates the value he places on relationships. He leads by example, preferring to model good behaviour, rather than talking about it. His sense of humour is a great antidote to a stressful or difficult moment and is appreciated by his teachers and peers. He demonstrates thinking and problem solving skills in a variety of contexts and is developing the confidence to share his knowledge with his peers. He is well respected by his peer group.

Collecting coins... "change for change"

It's that time of the year again when we start to think about how to serve others through service week at TCIS.
This year again, we are collecting spare coins from students, and we would encourage everyone to bring in as many coins as possible.
We will be having a little friendly homeroom competition between 6-8 groups to see who can collect the most coins from their homeroom. During service week we will lay out our coins to see the longest line.

All money collected will go towards Samaritan's Purse and their work to help with the Ebola crisis.

Please bring your coins and give them to me (Mrs Pearse), or your homeroom teacher, or place them in the container in the secondary office.
Your small amount of change will make a large difference to many who are in real need.
