Grades 6-8 Music evening in the Performing Arts centre .

Congratulations and thank you to Mr Samuel Wright and Ms Jinjoo Lee for their time, energy, skill and patience with our students during this Semester of ensemble classes. The music evening was absolutely outstanding in quality!

Below is the culminating piece from the evening where the Strings and Concert Band came together to form a TCIS 6-8 Orchestra.

They played a newly arranged piece by Mr Wright called "Sherlock"

I also managed to capture a few of the parents who came to watch their children perform.

Students of the Month for April

Congratulation to our 2 winners of Student of the Month for April.

Rebecca Walther:

A wide variety of people have been impressed with how this student has made the transition into TCIS. Eager to serve and support others in their learning, this student demonstrates plenty of the learner profile attributes. She is principled in her interactions with others and her behaviour around the school. She is caring in the way she helps a wide range of students. She is a communicator by being a vocal contributor, but also a good listener in a variety of group settings. She shows excellent self-management skills in her classes, processing information carefully and solving problems when she needs to. While many of the activities we offer in intramurals are new to her, that has not stopped her from jumping right in and giving her best. She is a positive risk taker by pushing herself past her boundaries each day to learn and excel. This student certainly is a humble leader and good role model for others.

Daniel Park: 

This student is a leader in their own right, determined to succeed, and earnest in their efforts. He has the ability to make others feel at ease through his kindness, gentle spirit, sense of humour and fun. Many of his peers and teachers appreciate these caring attributes as they can lighten the moment or ease the tension at times. He has shown a consistent work ethic throughout the year and is finishing strongly by applying himself to all of his classes. He shows he is balanced by involving himself in various ways with a variety of students and showing value in his work in all of his classes. He is a great listener, paying attention to details, taking on the feedback he is given on his work, and trying his best to apply it. He happily accepts the challenge of any new ideas or activities and gladly works with a wide variety of students within his peer group demonstrating he is open-minded. He makes people feel included and valued, and makes TCIS a friendly place to be.

Homeroom service project...

This semester during homeroom time, Grade 7 have been planning and conducting activities to serve and help others.

Mrs Rodriguez's homeroom have been collecting books for children of North Korean defectors. They collected books from the Elementary school and visited classrooms to explain what they were doing.

Mr Yuan's homeroom planned, organized and ran a lemonade stand after school to raise money.

Mrs Ferguson and Ms Waddell's homeroom will be running a booth at IFest!

Protest song from Music

Grade 7 students have been working on developing their own compositions relating to the specific theme of 'protests' in music.
Today during the assembly after chapel, one group performed their composition.

Student of the Month for March...

Congratulations to:

Herin (Jamie) Lee

She has been a great example of making principled choices to other students in her subject classes and homeroom.

She reflects on herself and her learning deeply to make improvements to her work and social skills. She cares that others also succeed in class, collaborating in any group situation with an open mind. This really does show the essence of being caring as she is not just concerned with her own achievement, but truly helps others to succeed as well. This makes her a very approachable and balanced young lady.

As a risk-taker, she is willing to take on challenges in class and often shares her ideas in front of the class. She is not afraid to approach a new situation, skill or problem and does so with an inquiring mind. She is knowledgeable on a wide range of topics and shows excellent independent learning and self-management skills. While some subjects are challenging for her, she demonstrates perseverance in a variety of situations to improve.

She is a positive communicator with her peers, and always has a smile while she is interacting with others. Her positive spirit and energy is such an asset to the TCIS community.

The Physical and health education page has been updated with pictures and information from the Badminton unit.

Grade 7 have just started a Health unit on looking at the Harmful effects of Tobacco.

They are learning what tobacco products do to the body.

Homeroom time...

Recently during homeroom we celebrated Pi day with some fun applications of Pi as homeroom challenges.
Students had to find their phone numbers from a list of Pi digits and create the largest most circular circle they could make with just a piece of paper.

During Chapel time we also learned about a club called "Compass" who are working here in Daejeon to support North Korean children.
Ms Paloma's group was touched by their work and asked 2 of the founders of the club Taylor and Yewon to come and talk with them further about their work.

Our Grade 7 students will be working on service activities as part of homeroom to help them fulfil the MYP "service as action" requirements.
